The railings enclosing St Mary's can be seen on the left. A horse and cart pauses, its owner chats to a local man. Opposite are a group of very old buildings, several of them timber-framed dating back to late medieval times including the shop occupied until a few years ago by Ashley Jackson the well know Barnsley artist. Bone the greengrocer was here for many years and at the time of the is image of c.1905. The slightly taller building on the right is Number 39, Morriss the newsagents, continuing until 1967.
