Copper Hall was a substantial 3-storey and 4-bay Georgian house on a site later (c.1963) occupied by what was then the New College of Technology. The house had a 3-bay extension woth a curved gable. The house was the 'town house' residence of the well-known Barnsley grocer John Beckett (1704-67) who paid his employees 'in copper'. Before demolition the building was used as a college annex.
