Church Street: War Memorial
The fine war memorial, originally dedicated to Barnsley's Great War dead, was sited on what was No.22 Church Street, the land here cleared to accommodate the memorial and the building of the new town hall, the latter not yet commenced. The war memorial was unveiled on 11 October 1925 and this postcard image probably dates from one of the first commemorations, wreaths etc clearly placed at the base.
