Church Street/Regent Street junction (view 1)

Image

Hardly recognisable today, this historic view is of the junction (top) of Regent Street and Church Street in the mid-1920s. The building plot is where Dr Sadler's house stood and was to be occupied by the Barnsley Permanent Building Society's purpose-built premises from the late 1930s. Church Street had little motorised traffic then, though a vehicle can be seen approaching in the far distance. See E.G.Tasker's 'Barnsley Streets': vol 1 pp 22-23.
