Church Street (view 11)

Image

This group of Edwardian/early twentieth-century houses once stood across from the new technical college, and were demolished to make way for road widening and the new roundabout in 1971. They are clearly very well built properties of some status though several were converted for business usage, for example for Mr Blackburn the dentist (40). No 42 was occupied by the Miners Permaneny Relief Society and another dentist, Irving Leigh, occupied number 44. Number 46 was used bu the West Riding Tuberculosis Centre. Their numbers were 40-46. See pp 54=55 of E.G.Tasker's 'Barnsley Streets” (vol 1).
