Eldon Street (N.side): 58-60 : Evans & Roebuck

Image

This interesting view of the north side of the street dates from about 1960 and features Bessie Evans' women's fashion (millinery) shop (58A). This function from about 1938 to 1968, so was a popular shop. A passageway separted Evans' from H.Roebeck's furnishing emporium (No.60). Roebuck's were here from 1876 to 1968, almost a century of trading. Next door was the smart brick facade of the Odeon. Gaumont Cinema.
