Graham's Orchard West Side (view 1)

Image

Stretching from Peel Street/Square upwards towards Shambles Street, Graham's Orchard is another interesting part of old Barnsley that has survived to the present day. This view shows densley packed properties occupying the west side of the street prior to some of them being demolished. The stone-setted surface of the street is of interest. The name probably goes right back to at least the eighteenth century, when orchards would have been available well within the bounds of the town, at the rear of properties usually.
