Market Hill: W.side: Coach & Horses Inn
Looking across towards the Coach & Horses Inn in about 1900. The assembly of men gathered at the front of the building, on the corner of Market Hill and Peel Street add interest to the scene. Erected in 1857, the Coach & Horses was a popular place for both residents and visitors, especially on market days. It was converted into a bank in 1912. William Foulstone was probably landlord when this image was taken. See “Barnsley Streets”, v.3. p.37
