Market Hill : E.side: Butterfields to Queen Street

Image

This interesting image looking across to the east side of Market Hill from Shambles Street is from an old painting and appears to date from the 1880s, before the new Barnsley Arcade was created. Prominent proporties in view include the Butterfields drapery emporium, Guest's, Bradys, and, near the bottom of the hill, the old King's Head Hotel. In the foreground is the open space used by stallholders on market days.
