Market Hill : W.side: Harts – Old Number 7

Image

Another view looking towards the west side of Market Hill, featuring Harts (wallpapers, 1935-66), Woodhouse (furnishers, 1936-66), Lord Nelson Vaults (Old Number 7) public house) and part of the Midland Bank building. This image dates from c.1960. The Carter family had long associations with the licenced premises, their name clearly evident over the front entrance. The arched entry between Woodhouse and the pub led to Old Bank Yard and another inn, the curiously named Temple of the Muses.
