Market Hill : W.side: Midland Bank

The Midland Bank in c.1960. The 3-storey, 3-bay, stone-fronted building had an impressive classical facade, arched windows to the ground floor and arched pediments above. The Midland functioned here from 1923-64, and was rebuilt in 1964-65. This building was used for by variety of earlier banks: London City & Midland, London Joint Stock. Yorks City and County and, from 1857-99 by the Barnsley Banking Company, the first occupiers.
