Market Hill : N.side: No 8, Greenfield & No 10, Squire

Image

This rare image dating from c.1880 shows the corner of the north side of Market Hill, at the junction of Shambles Street/Church Street. The old properties shown here were soon to be demolished: G.A. Greenfields (No.8, jewellers) and Alfred Squire (furnishers). Note the central roof top clock overlooking the market. This area was cleared and replaced by a car park and garden, and Church Street made into a much wider thoroughfare.
