Market Street: Co-op outfitting shop
This rare image dating from about 1900 shows Co-op shopworkers outside the outfitting store. Looking directly towards the photographer, the group pose with some curiosity, and the lamp standard, gas, is an interesting feature at the edge of the pavement. The barred windows at first floor level indicate a serious mark of security, Edwardian anti-theft measures. Also see p.63 of 'Barnsley Streets' vol.2.
