Market Street: Cleggs (1)
Barnsley had a long association with leather goods and Henry Clegg and Sons, at numbers 4 to 6 Market Street were prominent retailers, including as can be seen in this image saddlery goods, so important in a thriving market town. There appear to have been a good number of employees, some of them lined up outside the premises. Cleggs functioned from 1868 to 1961. They also supplied leather belting etc for the mills of Barnsley and the West Riding.
