Image

The Freeman Hardy Willis shoe shop was located at number 15 (west side) of Market Street, here from 1960-1978. This was part of a chain of shops by the company that started up as long ago as 1875. Alfred Freeman was a Russian emigrant who lived in London. The company became part of Sears group but the FHW name was continued above the shop fronts and on bags, also printed with 'For Happy Walking' .
