New Street (view 36) (Hadwens and Dobsons)
For many years (1909-1973) Hadwen & Sons, tailors, were located at the entrance to New Street, at number 2, so were very well known to generations of Barnsley people. From 1915 Hadwens also occupied number 4, both integrated in this c.1960 image. Next door at 6 was Dobson's radio shop, here from 1959-69. Hadwens and Dobsons were lost when the sites were redeveloped in the 1970s and 1990s, the latter relating to the building of the Alhambra Centre.
