New Street (view 43) (Elephant Hotel)

Image

The Elephant Hotel, a Clarkson's brewery house, stood at 32 New Street, above the Crown Wallpaper building in 1960. With five bays and three storeys, it had an impressive appearance, built principally of brick but its ground floor faced with fine ashlar stone. The elephant logo adopted by the brewery can be seen engraved on the lower arched windows.
