Queen Street: (view 3)
Interesting c.1910 view of Queen Street, from the direction of Cheapside. Gaunt and Sons famous jeweller's shop is prominent on the corner of May Day Green. Established in the mid-19th century, Gaunts supplied many Barnsley people with watches and 'wedding gifts' for several generations. Next door was the Booth/Jackson hatter's shop (3s 9d) and then the premises of the Maypole Diary. This view was probably taken on a Sunday as the street is deserted but the image shows up the stone-setted road surface and wide pavement on the left.
