Cheapside (view 3)

Image

This c.1900 view of Cheapside is useful because it shows the frontages (numbers 9-15) of several important shops: Cockings (grocer's/tea merchants, succeeding Jubb's), Wrays (butcher's), Stanton's (footwear) , Maudsleys (footwear) and (just in view) Baileys (grocer's). The protruding street clock is above Krakaeur's jeweller's shop. The sash windows of the upper storeys are interesting features, lighting the rooms of shopkeeper's and servant families.
