Cheapside: Salter & Salter

Image

The smart-looking frontage of Number 19 Cheapside was occupied by the Salter & Salter footwear shop from the 1870s to the 1920s. This image is taken from a single frame of a an early cinema advertizing film. The shop window is, typically, crammed full of footwear items, and carefully labelled/priced. The small boys outside help create a more interesting scene. Just below we get a glimpse of Altham's grocers who were also long-established, there from 1877-1935.
