Image

Another late view of the Ritz, taken aty the same time as the previous image. Many Barnsley people will have fond memories of the Wurtlizer organ, illuminated in all its glory and played during the intermission of films; and in the early days of the cinema for a few pence audiences were also entertained by a varity act or two. Others will remember particular films shown there, includingKen Loaches' 'Kes', based on Barry Hines's Barnsley-based novel, a film regarded by so may people as one of the best pieces of cinema in the twentieth century.
