Image

From 1946 to 1996 G.H. Rock the chemist's occupied the stone building, number 1 Peel Street, at the corner of Graham's Orchard. Two other chemists functioned from this site earlier : Alfred Green (from 1932) and E. Nash (from 1929). The Victorian building was once associated with the textile trade of Barnsley, as a warehouse, its most distinctive feature a bay window with a triangular pediment to the first floor. Next door, at number 3, was Bailey's saddlery (1928-60) and then at 5 Lodge & Hughe's 'overalls' industrial clothing shop (1960).
