Peel Street (30) ; Kingsway & Jackson

Image

Kingsway (45) was a 'cash & carry' confectionery establishment, here in the late 1960s. The actual building was previously occupied and built for the Barnsley BCS, as a grocers, one the earliest in town. The K. Jackson shop was a small radio and tv outlet and previously part of the BBCS building. The frontage retains many of its original features and the upper floor is clearly of Victorian appearance. This area was cleared as part of the new roundabout and associated development of the Townend area.
