Pitt Street (9) : South : Towards Chennell's Bar

Image

Looking towards Chennell's Bar at the junction with Wellington Street, on the south side of Pitt Street. This public house dates back to Victorian times and was occupied by James Chennell and William Armstrong in the 1890s to the end of the Great War, the name 'Chennell' adopted afterwards. Ashley Adams the travel agents occupied the adjacent premisses next to Chennell's in the 1960s. But this building was earlier used for many years as a working men's club.
