Pitt Street (13) : South : 'Manse Chambers'

Image

Manse Chambers, number 18, for many years part of the building was used by dental practices (and also a chiropodist's and estate agents). This image dates from 1960 when part of the building was used by Barnsley School of Motoring. The name 'Manse' goes back to the era, prior to the 1920s, when the house served as accommodation for nonconformist ministers. Part of the side of the National School can be clearly seen a little lower down the street.
