Image

An early image by Warner Gothard the well known Barnsley photographer, looking down the east side of Racecommon Road towards Townend in about 1890. The shop named as 'Foster' was a fishmonger's and below it was Hanby's the stationers. Shambles Street, with its ascending road can be seen in the distance, as can the route into Peel Street on the right and Dodworth Road on the left.
