Eldon Street (N.side) : Benjamin Harral (view 1)

Image

Benjamin Harral's was one of the most iconic shops in Barnsley town centre for many years, moving to Eldon Street in about 1906. 'The Ring Shop', with its unmistakable frontage and overhead clock were known far and wide, countless Barnsley folk buying their engagement, marriage rings etc there. This image almost certainly dates from the very early days of Harrals in Eldon Street, at twenty-past one in c.1906-7. See vol 4 of 'Barnsley Streets', pp.76-77.
