Located at the junction of Pogmoor Road and Intake Lane, this popular traditional pub takes its name from the well known Barnsley character associated with the linen trade of the nineteenth century. Three bays with a central entrance facing the main road, its hipped roof and extended rear helps us to appreciate the building is of a condiserable size compared to other much smaller hostelries of the same era. E G Tasker has traced the publicans right back to the 1860s when a George Shaw had the licence.
