Regent Street : Queens Hotel & offices 21-31

Image

Dating from the early 1870s, Barnsley's grandest Victorian hotel extended for 7 bays and 3 main storeys at the bottom of Regent Street where it had its main entrance. Next to it was a range of offices occupied by professional services such as solicitors: Dibb & Clegg were notable occupants in the early 1970s when this image was taken. The hotel 'wrapped around' the corner of Eldon Street where it extended for several more bays, as if to emphasis its grandeur and importance.
