May Day Green: Rabbit stall

Image

This market stall is notable for its display of fresh rabbit, a popular meat for many families until the 1950s. The men look well prepared for their work, with aprons and sleeves rolled or partly rolled. About 1910. Behind the stall is the entrance to the Burlington Arcade or New Arcade as it was known.
