Shambles Street : (South side) : Three Travellers Inn

Image

This view of the Shambles Street/St Mary's/Town Hall entrance towards Church Street dates from about 1960. The Three Travellers Inn – or at least its sign – can be seen on the right. This old pub dates back to the early nineteenth century and was well named given the importance of the road it faced and the passage of so many people and vehicles to and from Barnsley via Shambles Street or Westgate. Daniel Dixon was the publican in 1959-62.
