Cheapside: Jackson/Whites/Wades: 1960s

Image

A mid-1960s view of nos 6-8 Cheapside featuring Jackson the Tailor, Timothy Whites (chemist) and Wades (home furnishing). Jacksons were here from 1966 to 1977, having succeeeded Montagu Burton. The distinctive Burton Art Deco facade can be seen above the shop frontage, in contrast to the Edwardian stone upper frontage of Whites and Wades. Timothy White's were in business from 1899 to 1970, a long stint from this site; and Wades were operating here from 1956-1973.
