Shambles Street : (North side) : 1969 new development (1)

Image

By the late 1960s a great deal of modern buildings appeared in and close to the town centre, some the architecture functional rather than appealing to the eye, certainly a great deal different to the old properties of several generations earlier. This range of glass/brick and 'prefab concrete' accommodated shop units with offices/businesses above. Already looking dated by the 1980s, it took another generation for them all to be replaced by new and smart-looking facade of Barnsley Sixth Form College, which in turn had replaced the 'new' library.
