Cantors furniture store stood on the upper side of The Clarence Hotel, at 29-31, its presence unmistakable thanks to a large above-front-window name sign and a first-floor vertical sign. It functioned from 1953 to 1971 prior to demolition two years later. The BBCS Co-operative store at 33/33A specialised in funeral items and services, with its insurance office strategically and conveniently placed on the first floor.
