Sheffield Road (West side) : Griffin Inn

Image

The 3-storey and stone-fronted Griffin Inn (number 37) was a Barnsley Brewery house which had its origins in the 1860s. Its last licensee appears to have been William Lowery (1962-73), the building demolished in the same year as his occupency ended. The adjacent yard was 'Lindley's' but in th 1960s known as 'Oakwell yard' in deference to the brewery.
