Cheapside: Co-op stores 1960s (James Hudson Taylor)

Image

The Barnsley British Co-operative Society had several of their most important stores on the west side of Cheapside including grocery, meat, chemist and draperies: seen beyond the Baileys shop. Much of this area was redeveloped from about 1970, Boots the Chemist's store occuping much of the prime site, a historic site too, as at number 21 (formerly Oglesby's chemists, earlier between 1830-62 James Taylor's chemist where James Hudson Taylor the great missionary to China was born. Also see EGT69.
