Sheffield Road (West side) : T. White to Colin Black

Image

At the corner with Grace Street stood T.White's long-established tobacconist's shop, here (number 147) from 1910 to 1962. Advertising posters for Player's cigs are displayed above the shop facing Grace Street Street and the main road, the establishment taking every opportunity to display its smoking wares via three windows. W.R Fletcher operated his smart-looking butcher's shop next door, at 145, present from as long ago as 1909; and at 143 Brayshaw had a much newer confectionery business, functioning from about 1939. Further down the road, the archway leading to a single cottage can be see,, below the Turog bakery sign and part of Colin Black's complete's the image, dating from the early 1960s.
