Sheffield Road (West side) : Kenworthy to Richardson (1)

Image

Well placed at the corner of Park Road was M. Kenworthy's butcher's shop, here a very long time, from 1887-1961. This building was formerly on the site of an early inn, the Dog & Gun. 'Brookes' , the stationers and post office stands out from the neighbouring rather drab looking buildings, in business 1951-1968. Moore the greengrocer was next door at 175, a shop that had served several green grocer families since about 1900. Also in shot, at 173 is Richardson's sweet & tobacco shop, its awning drawn down over the pavement. A small boy in short trousers crosses the busy main road in about 1960.
