Sheffield Road (West side) : Charabanc at No. 97

Image

Packed with 'tourists', a charabanc is parked outside Day's cycle/motor shop (97 Sheffield Road) and the Union Inn (95), in about 1900. This was an ideal setting off place for a day trip to the countryside, say Matlock, or maybe to the seaside or an event. The passengers, all ladies, at least twenty of them, wear typically large hats. Just hope that their headwear was well secured by hatpins and they managed ok with what would have been a very bumpy ride.
