Summer Lane (west side) : Gillott's (factory) (1)

Image

The large building, located close to the railway bridge, was Gillott's factory from about 1935; and then used as a frozen food business. The building was subsequently converted into units used by a variety of small businesses. The site was, prior to Gillott's, the Victoria Mill (flour) but was associated with the Barnsley linen industry and trade from 1844 (John Hopwood Co).
