Summer Lane (west side) : Hairdressers shops

Image

At 60A and 60B in the 1960s/70s were a pair of hairdressers' shops: G. Williams (left) and 'Margaret'). The shops were housed in the gabled building abutting the main street. To the left, set back, was a vehicle tyre business, L.C.Tyres, and to the right a narrow street, Chesham Road. Number 60 was used earlier for boot making, an essential occupation and service in Victorian and Edwardian Barnsley.
