Wellington Street (west side) : Rose & Thistle

Image

The Rose and Thistle was clearly a Clarkson Brewery house when this image was taken in the 1960s. Located at number 25, it extended to three bays and three storeys, so made a considerable impact. Licensees existed from the late 1830s. It later converted to Silvers Public House and Tut and Shave. The original name was a more unusual variation of the 'Rose & Crown'.
