May Day Green : Barraclough's Foundry

Image

A rare view looking inside Barraclough's iron/engineering foundary. Known as the Union Foundry, Joseph Barraclough was the main owner, succeeding Tyas Barraclough in 1853; earlier, 1848-1850, the foundry was owned by Dunstan and Mitchell. The factory stood next to Charlesworth's furniture mart. This area was part of a distinctive industrial zone within central Barnsley.
