Peel Square: (10) : charabanc excursion
Charabanc or 'Chara' rides were very popular from the 1900s, this example packed with passengers, including children. Open-topped vehicles, they could accommodate up to about 20 individuals. Hats had to be held on to or in cases of ladies they had to be well secured with pins. They were usually day trips to events or took place on holiday and feast days. Sitting next to the driver must have been something of a privilege, especially for younger people and children. This example, is taken outside Reynolds & Wadsworth's.
