Shambles Street : (North side) : Woodhead & Cock Inn

Image

A man can be seen atop a Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway horse-drawn dray collecting supplies outside provision merchants E.Woodhead (number 17) in about 1890. A little further down the street, at 7, was the Cock Inn and a little higher the White Horse Inn and the Windmill Inn even closer to the camera. There were certainly numerous old inns along the street and boasts that drinkers could have a half or pint in every one in an evening! Took some doing if true.
