Sheffield Road (West side) : Barnsley FC HQ & Mascot/Clarence Hotel

Image

This image c.1910, by photographers Irving & Randall, shows 'Amos' the Barnsley FC comic mascot riding a donkey, certainly something to attract the attention! Itv was to celebrate Barnsley's first appearance in the FA Cup final. The club headquarters were then located in the Clarence Hotel, at 27 Sheffield Road. Amos appears to be well supported by a couple of handlers and the publican, possibly Thomas Fisher, looks, rather casually, at the scene. In 1912, the FA Cup, won by Barnsley FC, was displayed in the this pub.
